Bengaluru trekker missing for a month in HP

BENGALURU: Sathyanarayan Venkatachari, who is on a sabbatical from his to follow his passion— hiking—has been missing in for more than a month.
Search operation by local authorities has been on for the past few days after Venkatachari had gone missing on July 25. He was last traced at Wangtu in Kinnaur district of Himachal. His wife Anuradha had filed a missing person complaint on August 24.

In a bid to find him, Anuradha is camping in the northern state with her family friend Kishore Reddy since Sunday. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) were roped in for the search operation on Tuesday.

Venkatachari’s friend Apurva Sharan said it’s not unusual for him to go on treks, and it was one of the main reasons he took a sabbatical from TP Vision, the last firm he worked with. Before that, he had worked for more than eight years at Texas Instruments.

On Tuesday afternoon, some agencies reported that Venkatachari had died and security forces were in the process of securing his body. When TOI ed Anuradha, she denied the news.

“We’re on the ground and we spoke with the superintendent of police who’s coordinating the operations. He told us that the search team was in a no-mobile phone zone and no communication was possible from them. He said Venkat is still missing and the team has not communicated about his death,” Reddy said.
