A brush fire east of Moreno Valley prompted the California Highway Patrol to close most lanes of the 60 Freeway on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 22, the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department said.

At 4 p.m., the westbound right lane was closed, and both eastbound lanes were closed between Gilman Springs Road and Jack Rabbit Trail in the Badlands, according to the CHP log. The Gilman Springs onramp to the eastbound 60 also was closed.

The fire, which was burning on both sides of the highway, had charred 35 acres and was 20 percent contained as of 4 p.m., the fire department said.

The Land fire was reported at 1:45 p.m.
