CBI team visits Felix Dahl’s murder spot in Canacona

PANAJI: A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team on Tuesday visited the spot where Swedish national Felix Dahl was murdered in . The CBI, which has started its probe into the case, wanted to know the exact location the murder took place, sources said.

The bureau has already scrutinised the documents handed over to it by the Goa police, and is expected to call all suspects and witnesses for questioning. The bureau, however, is yet to summon anyone in the case.

Earlier, Goa police had summoned three suspects, but couldn’t establish their link with the murder.

The CBI recently registered an FIR against unknown persons after the high court of Bombay at Goa, in an order, transferred the case to the central body in the “in the interest of justice”.

The CBI took over the investigation from Canacona police, who filed a closure report as they couldn’t garner the evidence to the prove the murder.

Dahl’s mother Minna Pirhonen, who suspected that her son was murdered, moved the court seeking a CBI probe.

The case pertains to October 2014, when Dahl came to Goa on a holiday. He is said to have last been seen at a restaurant in Patnem, before his body was found on a quiet gravel road 200m from the restaurant on January 28, 2015. A local, who saw Dahl’s body near her house at 5.30am, informed the police.

The high court came down heavily on Canacona police’s subsequent investigation. A division bench comprising justices N M Jamdar and Prithviraj K Chavan said, “This state of affairs raises some very serious questions. The incident cannot be trivialized as a mere accident. This appears to be far more than just an accidental fall, but the police have chosen not to examine. The police have a duty to check that there is no crime.”
