CHANDIGARH: A PGI employee has alleged that a traffic police constable thrashed him badly for smoking near one of the institute gates on Saturday noon, demanding his immediate arrest.
Kuldeep Kumar, a resident of Nayagaon working as a sweeper at PGI, said he was smoking a bidi during his free time around 12 noon, when the constable, Vikas, in uniform approached him. “He first hurled abuses at me and then kicked and punched me. He hit me on my head with his kara,” Kumar alleged. The cop fled by the time Kumar called police helpline 100. Kumar said he received three stitches on his head.

He alleged the cop had sent a message through another person to not lodge a complaint against him. The sweeper union of PGI came out in support of Kumar and demanded action against the cop. Pawan Kumar, DSP (PRO), said a complaint has been received and action would be taken after verifying the facts.
