CHANDIGARH: The police on Monday arrested a 26-year-old man for carrying out snatchings on a white Activa scooter, claiming to have solved five cases.
A special team led by ASI Karam Singh of Sector 39 police station laid a naka near the beat box in Sector 37 on the basis of a tip-off and caught Kavi Visht, a resident of Kansal, , with the scooter. Police recovered a mobile phone and documents from him.

Police said the accused hails from and was working as a security guard in Sector 46. He had been arrested earlier for theft and for cases under NDPS Act. He is a drug addict and was bailed out in a drugs case in June, police said.

The accused targeted women carrying purses while moving near markets, schools and on internal roads of sectors. The accused used to buy drugs from the snatching money, the ASI said.

Police said he had carried out two snatchings in Sector 39, two under Sector 17 police station and one case was registered at the Sector 11 police station.

During preliminary investigation, he also confessed to theft of a motorcycle, police claimed.
