A businessman who left a bad review of a £3,000,000 restaurant on social media has been banned from returning.
Sam Chisnall was told never to return to the Pavilion restaurant in Colchester, Essex, after he criticised its manager in a public Facebook post.
The 33-year-old, who visited the venue in August, accused staff of being ‘abrupt’ and ‘confrontational’.
But his negative comments prompted a message back from the manager informing him that he was banned from all Elysium Group venues.
The restaurant later claimed it was Sam’s ‘aggressive’ behaviour which led to him landing a lifetime ban.
Sam, who runs his own business, said: ‘It takes a lot for me to leave a bad review and I always try to tip and give a good review when I have had a good meal, but we were treated terribly.
‘I do not understand how anyone was aggressive. It was a simple disagreement.’
Sam, who had taken four clients to the restaurant, said he initially complained to the manager that their meals were ‘massively undercooked’.
Despite the manager agreeing to reduce the bill from £220 to £140 he later went onto Facebook to air his views.
In a Facebook post, he said: ‘The four of us were just trying to have a good night out and we had some issues with the food and I complained.
‘The manager was very abrupt and confrontational, disrespectful and in general and absolute disgrace.’
It resulted in a private message back from Elysium assistant manager Maciej Andros, who said: ‘ As a group we obviously cannot exceed your expectations.
‘Therefore, to avoid future disappointments, I would like to inform you that you won’t be welcomed in our venues ever again.
‘That includes Mimosa, Hudson and Qube.’
The restaurant later claimed it was Sam’s ‘aggressive’ behaviour that led to his ban from all Elysium Group venues.
A spokesman for the company said: ‘We cannot, however, tolerate abusive or aggressive behaviour towards our personnel which was also witnessed in this case by a number of other diners at the restaurant when Mr Chisnall was presented with his bill which he refused to settle in full.
‘As such we have taken the highly unusual step of asking Mr Chisnall to refrain from visiting our premises in order to protect the welfare and safety of our personnel which is of paramount importance to us.’
The Elysium Group was founded by British businessman Arash Afzalnia in 2000. It owns six high-end restaurants throughout Colchester.
