Government official from Dhemaji held for graft

GUWAHATI: Abdul Latif, the joint director of health services, was caught red-handed from his office on Monday by the state police‘s anti-corruption branch (ACB) while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 12,000 from one Mridul Sarma for clearing a bill.
According to the complainant, the official had demanded a sum of Rs 18,000 (around 10% of the bill amount of Rs 1.83 lakhs) from the complainant to be paid against his supply of hired vehicles to the concerned office. “The complainant, Mridul Sarmah, had approached the anti-corruption branch and a case was registered. The accused official was booked under sections pertaining to public servants who committed criminal misconduct along with charges of accepting bribes,” police sources said.

The anti-corruption wing has been conducting raids at his residence and other places. He would be produced before the special court here on Tuesday.
