Idol wing questions temple officials in kalasam theft case

Tirupur: An idol wing police team conducted an inquiry with staff members of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR & CE) on Tuesday in connection with the theft of a kalasam from a millennium-old temple near Kangeyam in the district.
Pattali Pal Venneeswarar temple is believed to be at least 1,000 years old, and it is located at Arasampalayam in Kangeyam taluk. During August 2017, a panchaloha kalasam was placed on the gopura of the temple before a festival. An unidentified gang stole the kalasam. Later, the Kangeyam police registered a case based on a complaint given by the HR&CE department.

Subsequently, a special idol wing police team was formed to probe the matter. The team led by deputy superintendent of police Chandrasekaran started the probe with the department staff including temple officials, employees and priests, said a police officer.
