A man accused of murdering his pregnant girlfriend with a pair of scissors shouted ‘I want to be murdered’ during an appearance at the Old Bailey today.
Ioan Campeanu, 43, allegedly attacked 28-year-old hotel cleaner Andra Hilitanu in the bathroom of their home in Neasden, northwest London, in the early hours of June 1.
The mother, who was seven months pregnant with her third child, suffered multiple injuries including a fatal neck wound.
Despite paramedics’ best efforts to save her, Ms Hilitanu was pronounced dead at 2.44am.
Her unborn child also died in the attack.
Campeanu, originally from Romania, is accused of murder and child destruction – the charge of killing an unborn but viable foetus.
He appeared briefly at the Old Bailey today via video link from London’s Belmarsh prison where he ranted: ‘I want to be murdered, to be executed.
‘I want to die.’
Instead, Judge Sarah Munro QC ordered that the matter be listed again on September 21 when Campeanu can be brought to court and enter pleas to the two charges.
A trial date has been fixed for November 26.
