Markets snap winning run, Sensex sheds 173 points

NEW DELHI: Equity markets witnessed sharp dip in the last hour of trading as and finished with losses to the tune of half a per cent each.

30-share BSE Sensex lost 173.70 points to close at 38,722.93 while the broader 50-share NSE Nifty closed under the 11,700-mark, losing 46 points. The markets had opened flat with Sensex hitting an all-time high of 38,989.65 in early trade. However, the index could not breach the psychological 39,000-mark, as it backtracked from those levels and stayed rangebound thereafter.
